Typographical Errors


There are now ten known reverses with a typographical error, and they were all made by Johan Ephraim Bauert at the Copenhagen Mint. Four of the typos went unnoticed, while the other six were detected and corrected before the dies were put into production. However these typos were not easily erased on a steel die, and we can still see the remains of the original letters.

In addition to the typos, Bauert made 6 reverses where he put "1771" just below "DANSKE", forgetting the "K.M." line. As we can see from the scans below, Bauert had a hard time correcting these mistakes as well.
