Kongsberg Type 1

The Kongsberg mintage began in late 1782, more than eleven years after the first 1771 skilling coins were struck at Altona. Type 1 belongs to this difficult beginning: only two reverse dies are known, K101 and K102, together with their corresponding obverses. The dies were made by Anders Lunde and have a distinctive lettering style unlike the work at Altona and Copenhagen. Production soon stopped because of poor copper quality, although K102 may also have returned to use when mintage resumed later.
