Die study · Altona Mint

Altona Type 4

Evolution rather than revolution: Type 4 followed directly from Type 3 and was probably introduced around March 1780. Its most obvious feature is the longer and thinner upper “1”, while a series of smaller changes to the “M”, “K”, “A” and “7” trace Wolff’s continuing development of the design. Production continued until the Altona mintage was halted in July 1781.
