Kongsberg Type 3

Type 3 is the final Kongsberg design and the clearest break with Anders Lunde’s earlier work. After criticism of the earlier design, Kongsberg received a lead imprint as guidance for how to continue the work. The new design followed that model more closely: the crown became flatter and broader, while the reverse lettering — especially the “S” — became slimmer. Around 800,000 coins were struck with Type 3 dies during 1785–1786, bringing the Kongsberg chapter of the 1771 skilling to an end.
