Copenhagen Type 8

The final Copenhagen type is immediately recognizable by its large “M”, with a short middle leg and non-parallel outer legs. Production probably began in the autumn of 1783, followed by further refinement as the obverse gradually became smaller. The sudden stylistic change may even reflect the involvement of Johan Ephraim Bauert’s son, Georg Valentin. After an interruption caused by illness, the last Type 8 coins were struck in July 1785.
