Copenhagen Type 6

The largest Copenhagen production series, Type 6 captures the design in rapid transition. The long “L” is its clearest hallmark, accompanied by changes to the “M”, “G”, “A”, “E” and eventually the size of the “K”. Produced during the enormous output of 1783, the series also contains several notable spelling errors and aberrations — perhaps a reflection of the sustained pressure under which dies were being prepared. Many Type 6 dies were also sent to Altona, making this another series whose history cannot be understood by looking at Copenhagen alone.
